Coty Has A New CEO

Article first published as Coty Has A New CEO on Technorati.

Bernd Beetz, Coty’s Chief executive for 11 years, steps out while Michele Scannavi, a Coty executive and former head of FILA Sportswear steps in as the new CEO of one of the biggest and most important beauty products manufacturer whose main businesses are fragrances and has been making a lot of headlines lately due to their collaboration with Lady Gaga for the release of her highly anticipated Fame Fragrance and their attempt to buy Avon. The news of the new CEO comes while the company prepares for a share listing in New York that is expected to give it a market value of up to $700m.

As reported earlier by WWD, the french brand, famous for partnering with big-names as Beyoncé, David Beckham, Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga and Jennifer López to produce fragrances, filed IPO documents with US regulators at the end of June as it sought to move on from a failed $10.7bn takeover bid for rival Avon.

Mr Beetz, who will remain on the Coty board, declined to comment on the timing of the IPO. He also did not comment on whether Coty would launch another bid for Avon, a troubled group that consistently stonewalled approaches from Coty. But did say… “It’s a good crossroads as we embark on the IPO”.

Bart Becht, Coty’s chairman and former chief executive of Reckitt Benckiser, said in a statement that Mr Scannavini “is the key architect behind Coty’s designer brand licenses and the growth of our fragrance business”.

Mr Scannavini was previously chief executive of Fila and before that reported to Mr Beetz when both men worked at Procter & Gamble.

The Healthy Issue

Lily Donaldson & Gemma Ward by Steven Meisel for Vogue US December 2005

Article first published as The Healthy Issue on Technorati.

An article written by Colombian comedian-superstar Alejandra Azcárate raised a lot of eyebrows, generating a big amount of criticism because of its cruelty to fat people. The article called “Las 7 Ventajas De La Gordura”, that could be translated as “The 7 advantages of being fat”, claims that big women do not spend much time buying clothes because they just buy whatever fits and that unlike skinny people – like Azcárate – they do not have to think before they eat because they are already chubby, so they do not worry about the diet at all… among other insulting things, and finishing with the “I love being skinny” statement, in which Azcárate confirms that it is better to be skinny than being fat – which, sorry but is true.

The controversial article generated a lot of media response, backlashes from all over Colombia, and off course twitter and facebook were invaded by despising comments about it. And even the same publication that released Azcárate’s article was used as the mean to publish a counterpart, properly called “My Response To Azcárate’s Article” in which the author harshly criticizes the infamous article and the magazine that published it by calling them irresponsible.

Just because I have a genetically-blessed figure, it does not give anybody the right to say whatever they feel like just to offend me because we all have our own personal body issues, body issues that could lead guys to countless hours at the gym trying the almost impossible muscle-building-task; the Adonix-Complex another issue that no one considers. Because yes, you do not always want to be so skinny specially when you are an insecure 15 or 18 years old boy with an impossibly fast metabolism. Thank God all those problems are behind and the gym hours really made me realize that it is all about a self-confidence that comes from a healthy figure.

It is important that we all do everything we can to help everybody we know, and to deliver helpful and accurate information to promote a positive welfare. And even most important, to recognize that there are different types of HEALTHY-BODIES and that slenderness is not always a sign of bad health, while obesity is an alarmingly-growing disease that affects millions and millions of people. We should not support any kind of eating-disorder, we should try to fight against obesity the same way we fight anorexia. Just be healthy and love your body however it is as long as you stay healthy… This is a message in favor of a healthy body image.

The same backlash was obtained by Natalia Vodianova herself when at the Vogue Festival 2012 she said “it’s better to be skinny than to be fat”. Which it is completely true, but what I think is the hidden problem here is the fact that we are in a world that silently supports obesity, and by this I am not saying that by any means I support Azcárate’s article, specially because I do not know what it is like to be overweight and the struggles behind it.

But it should not be about, if it is skinny then it is bad and the rest is good, because that is what really bothers me. We should stop the double standard and be fair with everybody, and promote a healthier focus of the body image. I honestly support Vodianova’s statement but if we are going to criticize insensitive Azcárate for being so offensive, then we should do the same with the people who do not have an fattening illness – but become a pro-obesity, pro-diabetes and pro-heart-diseases images – instead of being applauding them for their so called “Bravery”, because they are not promoting a good cause neither, and sometimes they can be really offensive with us, skinnier frames.

Lady Gaga’s Semen And Blood Spilled

The Monster Queen Released Fragrance Details

The Pop-icon took her official page to reveal details of her highly anticipated fragrance ‘The Fame’ earlier than expected due to leaked photos of the bottle without her permission. She tweeted earlier, “Looks like photos of my perfume are being leaked. Oh you fashion editors I could just crinkle my hands at you.” When one follower asked if she plans to release a men’s version, Gaga added, “My perfume was designed for women, but a lot of my gay (male) friends wear it.”The official announcement was released today and affirms that Gaga’s first fragrance will hit the shelves on september 2012 and will be released through the artist’s own Haus Laboratories in association with Coty, as the latest expression of her creativity. An interesting and groundbreaking choice as no other celeb has ever done that, which not only means that she has more control of what is happening with her scent but clearly it would mean more money for each bottle sold. It may be something like artists who write or not their own songs. Savvy business woman for sure.

The controversial star had previously said that her fragrance would smell like blood and semen, but Fame actually contains notes of “belladonna, crushed heart of tiger orchidea with a black veil of incense, pulverized apricot and the combinative essences of saffron and honey drops” and is a groundbreaking scent that like the fashion-icon herself is ready to break all the industry’s standards and rules with innovative technology, that makes it the first ever Black Eau de Parfum that sprays clear and becomes invisible once airborne. Which is not only incredibly exciting and shows the commitment of the star but becomes a big step forward for the industry worthy of admiration. This is a fragrance by Lady Gaga, so off course it has the collaboration of fashion legends as Nick Knight who designed the bottle and Steven Klein who directed and and photographed the Ad Campaign.

According to the official announcement “The innovations in Lady Gaga Fame go beyond the black-to-clear fluid”, as the traditional scents are composed by a hierarchal structure of top, middle and base  notes but the Fame “has a unique structure called the Push-Pull Technology, where the ingredients interact together to highlight different olfactive aspects of each note at the same time, without any hierarchy. All of the notes were crafted to work together harmoniously thanks to the complimentary properties of each ingredient, which allow for a true metamorphosis of the scent when worn on skin”. Which is incredibly innovative and shockingly technological, but makes me wonder about the process of the fragrance creation because you would have to be a chemist to be able to create such magnificent technologies which the Music-Superstar is not. But did she had that on mind from the very beginning? Did she go there asking for all those innovations, and the Haus/Coty people worked really hard to please her? Could she be that visionary and innovative to influence in such technical fields? I would love to see all the laboratory tests and how the scent is created, because this is really… WOW!

“Enjoy the first ever fragrance from Haus Laboratories. Fame, a beautiful prospect with a dark heart- X Gaga”. Said Lady Gaga. And I would definitely go running to get one of those ‘Ultra-innovative’ fragrances when it hits the stores.

Visit the Haus Laboratories Offical Page and their Facebook page for more information.

THE LADY GAGA FAME FRAGRANCE FOR WOMEN WILL BE AVAILABLE AT RETAILERS WORLDWIDE IN SEPTEMBER 2012.

Beauty Trends: Academy Awards 2010

Less is more, that was the big statement of the big night. With Nude Lips, and very natural make-up, perfectly contrasted with accentuated lips, the Hollywood starlets never looked chic. Up Does and hairs down with loose finger waves were the A-Lister’s favorites that accentuated their glamour.

Rosy cheeks and lips, fluttery lashes, pale pink blush, shimmery lipcolor, defined brows, bright lips were the big trends that made them shine like the stars that they are. Look at Charlize Theron’s red lips with a perfect hair do and ethereal and natural looking make up for the rest of her face, just flawless. Or  Nicole Richie, with Cleopatra’s strong eyes and 60s hair that were so dramatic and edgy but perfectly balanced with a natural lip color and just a hint of blush. Sleek and polished… Get inspired.

The inspiration is the modern Marilyn and the essence of the Dolce&Gabbana woman, glamorous and sensual, always with a confident and provocative edge. Inspired by the dreamy Mediterranean coasts and the treasured screen sirens that have defined Hollywood glamour, the campaign is formidably fresh.

The Face

Extraordinarily striking and unforgettable, Scarlett Johansson captures the desirability of Dolce&Gabbana’s first cosmetics collection, The Make Up. She symbolizes the essence of the modern chameleon, the perfection of a natural beauty as well as the provocative woman, the desire to express the range of her personality from seductress to innocent, all of which is at the heart of the collection.
