Editor’s Pick: Miu Miu
Spring/Summer 2011
There is no doubt that Miuccia Prada’s Miu Miu show was one of the best of the season. A brilliant exhibition of pieces for the coolest girls in town. With the “American Idol” Opening and Cheryl Cole’s sound bits as part of the soundtrack, young girls giggling and yelping as they were asked “Why do you like Girls Aloud?”, with the narrator’s voice from the opening score of Flashdance: “Her name is Alice… She lives in a man’s world.” the message became loud and clear: “I was thinking about everybody’s obsession with being famous” Said the designer.
Realities like “American Idol” or even “Dancing With The Stars” may have been in the designer’s mind, but there was nothing trashy or costume-glittery in this collection, it was all about the perfect mix of sporty chic with tons of glamour walking down the runway. With early Sixties shapes, Seventies glam rock references or even day-glo and neon details that feel so Eighties, the collection felt so modern and so new, very Miuccia Prada.
But the stealth of the season became the incredibly-killer neon shoes with metallic details, that I am sure are already in every “IT” girl’s must list for the next Spring 2011, because those are exactly what they need: A pop of neon colors in the most stylish way possible. They crept up the ankle in scalloped twines with zippers, buckles, geometric shapes that felt very Art-Deco and those details that reminded us of the Oxford-Shoes. Simply genius, simply perfect… Very Miu Miu.
